Mississippi Is...

Mississippi Is…

The beauty of a winter snowstorm,
Once in a blue moon

Raindrops clinging to a leaf
After a spring rain

The laughter of children playing in the red dirt,
The taste of blackberry cobbler and teacakes
On a Sunday afternoon

Listening to the whippoorwills
On a summer night in June

Wild violets growing in the woods,
From the Delta to the Coast

Bluegrass music, the lighthouse,
Cotton fields as far as you can see

Dogwood trees, azaleas, roses and butterflies
Mississippi is … to me

—Frances Dennis, Soso
