Anna’s Ginger Creams

Breads & Desserts


1/2 cup boiling water
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup molasses
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon

Butter Cream Frosting:
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla extract


Pour boiling water over sugar and shortening; stir until mixed and let cool. Beat in molasses and eggs, one at a time. Sift flour twice with remaining ingredients and fold into molasses mixture. Turn into shallow 10 by 13-inch pan prepared with cooking spray and spread evenly. Bake at 400 degrees for 18 minutes. Let cool. Frost with Butter Cream Frosting. Cut into squares to serve.
