Asparagus Squares



6 lasagne noodles, broken in half
1/2 stick margarine or butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium onion, chopped
4 T. flour
3 cups evaporated milk
1 tsp. dry thyme
Salt, pepper
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 (14-oz.) pkg. sliced ham (from grocer’s lunch meat section), julienned
2 (15-oz.) cans asparagus spears, drained


Cook noodles according to package directions; set aside. In a saucepan with the margarine or butter, saute garlic and onion. Blend in flour; add milk, stirring constantly. Cook on low heat until thick and smooth. Stir in thyme, salt and pepper to taste. In a 2-quart (8 x 11 1/2 x 2-inch) microwaveable dish sprayed with cooking spray, layer noodles, asparagus, ham, sauce and cheese. Make 2 layers,
