Pastel de Montezuma


One-Dish Meals


Green Sauce (recipe follows) 6 cups bite-size pieces cooked turkey or chicken 1 pint (2 cups) sour cream 1 dozen 6-inch corn tortillas, cut into 2-inch squares 6 cups (1 1/2 lbs.) shredded Monterey Jack cheese Green Sauce: 1 (13-oz.) can tomatillos, drained 1 small onion, cut into pieces 1 (4-oz.) can diced green chiles, drained 1 bunch fresh cilantro (coriander), chopped (about 1/2 cup


Prepare Green Sauce: In a food processor or blender, combine ingredients. Process until pureed. Arrange half the turkey in a lightly greased 9-by-13-inch baking pan or shallow 3-quart casserole. Spread with half of the Green Sauce, then with half the sour cream. Top with half the tortilla pieces and half the cheese. Repeat layers, ending with cheese. Cover pan with foil.
