Honored with the Sam Pittman Excellence in Utility Vegetation Management Award.

The Mississippi Vegetation Management Association honored Cooperative Energy’s vegetation management team with the Sam Pittman Excellence in Utility Vegetation Management Award at its recent annual meeting. The award-winning team includes Wes Graham, transmission field biologist; Brad Morris, right-of-way specialist; Tommy Garrard, right-of-way inspector; and Sherman Smith, right-of-way inspector.

The Sam Pittman Excellence in Utility Vegetation Management Award commemorates Pittman’s career achievements and service as the first president of the Mississippi Vegetation Management Association. Pittman is considered a trailblazer in the field of utility and roadside vegetation management in Mississippi. Pittman also has strong electric cooperative ties — his son, Harold Pittman, serves as Delta Electric’s assistant general manager and chief engineer.

Graham said, “This is a huge honor in our field. We are so humbled and honored to have been recognized on this level for our hard work and dedication while protecting and preserving Cooperative Energy’s rights-of-way.”

The award is presented annually by the Mississippi Vegetation Management Association, a statewide organization that serves as an educational resource for information on vegetation management along highway, pipeline, and electric rights-of-way and other industrial sites.
