Mississippi, land of poverty,
A place where many struggle to be,
Despite your beauty and southern charm,
Your people face challenges that do harm.
From the Delta to the coast,
Your poverty rate is among the most,
With high unemployment and lack of education,
Your people face a daily frustration.
But even in the midst of struggle and strife,
Your people hold on to hope and life,
With strength and resilience in their hearts,
They work to make a better start.
So here’s to Mississippi, a state of grace,
Where even in poverty, there’s a still a place,
For hope and love and community,
That bind your people together in unity.
